Description For Lead Software Engineer - Front End/Roku

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join their Roku Client Application team. This role is crucial in building Direct-to-Consumer client apps like Disney+, Star+, ESPN, and Hulu on Roku streaming devices and smart TVs. The position requires expertise in BrightScript development and client-side technologies, with a focus on creating exceptional viewing experiences.

The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years of development experience, with 2 years specifically in BrightScript. They will be responsible for developing new application features, from onboarding to browse UI/UX experiences, analytics, and video playback interfaces. The role involves working with cutting-edge technology and contributing to tools and systems beyond Roku apps, including JavaScript & React-based web tools and Node.js services.

As part of Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, you'll be at the forefront of reimagining how magical viewing experiences are created for the world's most beloved stories. The team is responsible for evolving streaming and digital products in immersive ways, powering worldwide advertising and distribution, and delivering Disney's unmatched entertainment and sports content to hundreds of millions of people globally.

Responsibilities For Lead Software Engineer - Front End/Roku

  • Be a critical member of a team of engineers responsible for building client app experiences in BrightScript
  • Contribute to the development of new application features from on-boarding to browse UI/UX experiences
  • Contribute to the development of tools and systems outside of the Roku apps
  • Work with Roku to vet new hardware, firmware and certification requirements
  • Collaborate with client SDK engineering, design engineering, services engineering teams and product owners
