Description For Manager, Software Engineering

The Walt Disney Company is seeking a Manager of Software Engineering to join their team in Celebration, Florida. This role will be responsible for leading the end-to-end delivery and sustainment of both custom-built and off-the-shelf software products for Disney Cruise Line. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing software engineering teams and delivering enterprise-scale solutions.

The position involves leading a team of software and system engineers to ensure DCL Logistics, Medical, and Safety & Quality Management applications deliver the highest quality experience for both Guests and Cast members. The role requires balancing multiple priorities between capital and expense initiatives, including application stability, security vulnerabilities, and new business capabilities.

As a leader in this role, you'll work closely with various stakeholders including Product, Operations, Design, and Project Management teams to deliver key initiatives from concept through completion. You'll need strong communication skills to effectively convey ideas to business sponsors, technical resources, and executives.

The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of technology experience, with at least 5 years delivering medium to large projects. You should have a proven track record in innovation, problem-solving, and leading diverse teams. Experience with Agile methodology and managing multi-vendor environments is essential.

Responsibilities For Manager, Software Engineering

  • Lead initiatives within the DCL Application portfolio related to Logistics, Medical and Safety & Quality Management systems
  • Lead estimation, planning, and oversight of technical development
  • Work closely with leadership to understand strategic goals and deliver technology solutions
  • Partner with Security and Compliance to ensure compliance requirements are met
  • Be the primary point of contact for internal business and vendor partners
  • Drive recommendations for buy versus build decisions
  • Be a key stakeholder in Annual Operating Planning and Long-Term Capital Planning

Requirements For Manager, Software Engineering

Java
  • 8+ years of experience in Information Technology with at least 5 years solutioning / delivering medium to large technology projects
  • Proven track record on innovation and applying practical solutions to complex business problems
  • Demonstrated expertise in design and implementation of business-critical systems
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Inclusive leadership approach which embraces diversity
  • Proficient in Agile methodology
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering
  • Experience managing projects in a multi-vendor environment including offshore teams
