As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology, you'll be part of a team developing and maintaining recommendation and personalization algorithms for Disney Streaming's suite of streaming video apps, notably Disney+ and Hulu. You'll collaborate across Engineering, Product, and Data teams to apply machine learning methods to meet strategic product personalization goals, explore innovative techniques for recommendations, and optimize operational processes.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing cutting-edge machine learning algorithms for personalization and recommendation systems
- Maintaining algorithms deployed to production and explaining methodologies to technical and non-technical teams
- Developing and maintaining ETL pipelines using tools like Airflow and Jenkins
- Deploying scalable streaming and batch data pipelines to support petabyte-scale datasets
- Establishing and maintaining algorithm development, testing, and deployment standards
- Collaborating with product and business stakeholders to identify new personalization opportunities
- Building streaming data pipelines using technologies like Kafka, Spark, or Flink
You'll be working on products that reach millions of consumers every day, including Disney+, Hulu, ABC News and Entertainment, ESPN, and ESPN+. The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of experience developing machine learning models and performing large-scale data analysis
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field
- Strong skills in writing production-level, scalable code (e.g., Python, Scala)
- Experience deploying algorithms to production systems
- In-depth understanding of modern machine learning methods and their mathematical foundations
- Experience with big data technologies like Databricks, S3, and Spark
- Strong communication skills to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred qualifications include an MS or PhD in a quantitative field, experience with content recommendation algorithms at scale, and familiarity with data governance principles.
