Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join their Data Capture team within the Data organization. This role is crucial in establishing and maintaining core platform frameworks and pipelines that enable engineering and analytical teams to leverage data for key business decisions.
The position involves working with cutting-edge technologies including Airflow, Spark, Databricks, Delta Lake, and Snowflake to build and maintain data pipelines that support Disney's world-class streaming platforms like Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in both software engineering and data engineering, with expertise in Scala and Python programming.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for maintaining strict uptime SLAs, implementing Lakehouse architecture, and developing shared libraries that abstract complex business logic. You'll collaborate closely with product managers, architects, and other engineers to drive the success of the Data Capture platform while ensuring high operational efficiency and quality.

Responsibilities For Senior Software Engineer - Data Capture Team
- Maintain and expand the Data Capture platform including Spark data pipelines
- Extend functionality of Data Capture platform offerings
- Implement Lakehouse architecture
- Architect and code shared libraries in Scala and Python
- Collaborate with product managers and architects
- Develop and document standards and best practices
- Ensure high operational efficiency and quality
- Provide mentorship and guidance for team members
Requirements For Senior Software Engineer - Data Capture Team
- 5+ years of software engineering experience developing backend applications
- 2+ years of data engineering experience developing large data pipelines
- Strong algorithmic problem-solving expertise
- Strong fundamental Scala and Python programming skills
- Basic understanding of AWS or other cloud provider resources (S3)
- Strong SQL skills
- Hands-on production environment experience with distributed processing systems like Spark
- Hands-on production experience with orchestration systems like Airflow
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
