Description For Software Engineer II

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is at the forefront of reimagining magical viewing experiences for the world's most beloved stories while transforming Disney's media business. As part of the Living Room Devices, Roku Client Application Engineering Team, you'll help push the boundaries of what's possible on 10-foot devices. You'll be instrumental in building Direct-to-Consumer client apps like Disney+, Star+, ESPN and Hulu on one of the most popular streaming platforms.

The role requires expertise in BrightScript and client app development, focusing on creating exceptional viewer experiences. You'll work on everything from onboarding to browse UI/UX, analytics, and video playback interfaces. The position offers opportunities to contribute to various technologies, including JavaScript/React web tools, gulp build scripts, AWS configurations, and Node.js services.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience in client-side development, MVVM architecture, and creating performant user interfaces. Knowledge of set-top boxes or Smart TVs, performance optimization, and feature degradation techniques is valuable. The role involves collaboration with multiple engineering teams and requires both technical expertise and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities For Software Engineer II

  • Build client app experiences in BrightScript using Roku SceneGraph SDK
  • Contribute to development of new application features from on-boarding to browse UI/UX experiences
  • Contribute to development of tools and systems including JavaScript & React-based web tools
  • Work with Roku to vet new hardware, firmware and certification requirements
  • Collaborate with SDK engineering, design engineering, and services engineering teams
