dmg events, an international exhibitions and publishing company, is seeking an experienced data warehouse developer to join their expanding data team. As part of the Daily Mail Group Trust (DMGT), a diverse multinational portfolio with £2bn in revenues, dmg events attracts over 425,000 visitors to their 80 global exhibitions annually.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining ETL structures in the Redshift data warehouse. You'll collaborate with other teams to ensure the cloud environment meets all architectural, operational, and integration requirements. Key responsibilities include:
- Developing, testing, and documenting procedures for new data ingestion
- Modeling and creating new facets of the warehouse for new data types and sources
- Taking ownership of the ETL migration to dbt
- Optimizing and tuning SQL queries for best performance
- Monitoring performance and troubleshooting issues
- Contributing to and reinforcing best practices for database design
- Working with stakeholders to understand needs and design robust, dynamic models
- Recommending new software components to achieve goals more effectively
- Participating in peer review processes and periodic architectural reviews
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience as a SQL database developer, preferably in cloud environments like Redshift or Snowflake
- Proficient SQL programming and database management skills
- Essential experience with dbt
- Strong understanding of relational databases and data modeling concepts
- Experience in performance tuning, including indexing and distribution keys
- Knowledge of database security practices and data quality principles
- Familiarity with ELT approach to data and version control systems like GitHub
- Python experience would be beneficial
