Description For First Engineer

DOF Subsea is a leading provider of vessel and subsea services in the global oil and gas industry, specializing in ROVs, survey systems, and offshore construction vessels. They are currently recruiting First Engineers for Canadian Flagged Offshore Support Vessels supporting operations on the Grand Banks starting Q1 2025. The position operates on a 28-day rotation schedule and requires a motivated seafarer passionate about maritime careers.

The First Engineer reports to the Vessel Chief Engineer and is responsible for managing mechanical installations, maintenance, and repairs aboard the ship. Key responsibilities include daily operations management, maintenance work, leading risk assessments, and ensuring proper documentation.

The ideal candidate should possess strong technical qualifications including Transport Canada Second Class Engineer Motor Ship certification and relevant marine engineering education. Experience with offshore support vessels, particularly with diesel electric and hybrid propulsion systems, is essential. The role demands excellent leadership abilities, strong communication skills, and comprehensive knowledge of maritime regulations.

Responsibilities For First Engineer

  • Taking control of daily running of mechanical installations onboard
  • Planned and unplanned maintenance of mechanical installations
  • Leading Engine Room Personnel in Risk Assessments and toolbox talks
  • Assist in vessel bunkering
  • Engine room Watchkeeper duties
  • Ensure Engine Logbook and Oil Record Books are updated and maintained

Requirements For First Engineer

  • Post-Secondary Education in Marine Engineering (or Equivalent)
  • Transport Canada Second Class Engineer Motor Ship certification
  • STCW MED BS, PSC, AFF certifications
  • Marine Advanced First Aid certification
  • Valid Seafarers Medical
  • Valid Canadian Passport
  • Experience on Offshore Support Vessels with diesel electric and hybrid propulsion systems
  • Knowledge of ISM, Transport Canada, MARPOL and legislative requirements
  • Experience in management role or lead position within offshore industry
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
