Description For UI/TypeScript Engineer, Commodities Engineering

DRW, a diversified trading firm with a 30-year history, is seeking a UI/TypeScript Engineer to join their Commodities Engineering team in Austin. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of finance and technology, developing cutting-edge trading software.

As a UI/TypeScript Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, and testing proprietary trading software. You'll have access to DRW's significant set of tools and technology, and will be expected to leverage these existing resources while pragmatically focusing on business value.

Key responsibilities include creating tools for exploratory research, developing products from inception to production, crafting APIs to enhance research productivity, and building web user interfaces for data exploration. You'll also work on improving developer and user experiences, implementing automated testing systems, and collaborating across the firm as a subject matter expert.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in web development using modern front-end frameworks, strong TypeScript and CSS skills, and the ability to manage complex state management paradigms. You should also possess strong API design and data modeling skills, experience with large datasets and high-availability systems, and familiarity with financial/B2B application design.

Responsibilities For UI/TypeScript Engineer, Commodities Engineering

  • Create tools and workflows that enable exploratory research
  • Develop products from inception to production, identifying business needs, user experience, and product evangelism
  • Craft APIs that enable research productivity
  • Build and iterate on platform software to improve developer experience as well as user experience
  • Build web user interfaces for data exploration and delivery of research results
  • Build systems to enable automated testing of systematic trading web-applications and deployment into our production trading environment
  • Collaborate with peers at DRW as a subject matter expert to learn & contribute to research work across the firm

Requirements For UI/TypeScript Engineer, Commodities Engineering

TypeScript
React
  • 5 years of experience with web development in a modern front-end framework (React, Angular, Lit, Vue, etc)
  • Great working knowledge of Typescript and CSS
  • Able to manage complex state management paradigms
  • Strong API design and data modeling skills
  • User Experience design skills for data-dense Financial/B2B applications, with an appreciation for design systems/component libraries
  • Experience writing software with large datasets and high availability
  • A keen understanding of browser performance optimization techniques
  • Best practices for client-side code testing using tooling such as Cypress, Playwright, Selenium, Puppeteer, React Testing Library, etc
  • Familiarity with AG Grid and common charting libraries (HighCharts, D3, etc)
  • Experience with at least one 'back-end' programming language (Python, Java, C++, C#, Rust, etc.)
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to work directly with your software's users
  • Leadership skills and a team-orientated mentality
  • Experience working in the trading industry, or a similarly demanding industry, developing business critical applications
