Responsibilities For Unix/Linux Systems Engineer
- Oversee the configuration, installation, and maintenance of Unix operating systems (e.g., AIX, Solaris, HP-UX) and VCS clusters
- Apply patches and updates to ensure systems are up-to-date and secure
- Implement and manage security measures to protect systems from vulnerabilities and threats
- Provide technical support and guidance
- Monitor and optimize system performance
- Provide BAU support and manage incidents and requests
- Investigate and resolve complex system issues
- Implement monitoring tools and scripts (bash) to proactively manage system health and performance
- Create and maintain detailed documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps
- Generate reports on system performance, incidents, and maintenance activities
Requirements For Unix/Linux Systems Engineer
- Strong knowledge of RHEL6, RHEL7 & RHEL8 and Veritas Cluster Server in large scale data centre environments
- Extensive knowledge of VCS in a Red Hat Linux environment (physical and virtual)
- Ability to test and upgrade VCS while producing detailed documentation
- Previous exposure migrating VCS clusters
- Experience with the operation of a large VMware infrastructure
- Experience of patching Linux servers to remediate vulnerabilities
- Utilize automation tools and frameworks (e.g., Ansible & YAML, Puppet)
- Migration, upgrade and rebuild of legacy Linux Servers from RHEL6 & RHEL7 to RHEL8
- Working knowledge of change management processes
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
