Description For Founding Engineer

Our goal at Duckie is to build the world's most advanced AI customer support assistant. We are taking on players like Zendesk AI and Intercom's AI, setting ourselves apart through deep product and engineering knowledge integrations, and a kickass product experience.

We are looking for an engineer to join our founding team in person in San Francisco! We want a founding engineer who loves to tackle new challenges head on, and isn't afraid to break things. As one of our first engineers, you will be working side-by-side with the founders and have full ownership over feature lifecycles.

As a founding engineer, you will:

  • Core AI: Experiment, evaluate, and deploy improvements to our core AI product. This is anywhere from improving RAG pipelines, task-specific model fine-tuning, and building upon our multi-agent framework.
  • Build and Scale: Build out and scale-up our product as we grow. As more customers continue to come in, we are constantly deploying Duckie on new environments and tackling scaling challenges.
  • Full Stack Development: In addition to core, you will work on platform development, data integrations, and more to deliver an awesome product experience.
  • Full Ownership: You will have very high ownership over the product. As a result, the work you do now will have a significant impact on the product and company direction.
  • Be in the Trenches: It's not all sunshine and roses. As a member of our founding team, you sit side-by-side with the CTO to tackle all the challenges that we face - both fun and grunt. The work can be long and hard, but we work together to execute quickly and keep moving fast.

Our Values: It's really quite simple. We value passion and curiosity above all else. Do you love constantly building new things, being part of a growing company, and overcoming challenges? So do we.

About You:

  • Experience: Previous experience working in a startup environment. Comfortable with the fast-paced, dynamic nature of startup life.
  • Tech: Full stack expertise (backend, devops, frontend), with some work in applied AI.
  • Grindset: Understand that our job is to do both the exciting innovative work, as well as the grunt work. Prepared to work together during the difficult/tedious weeks.
  • Location: We are based in San Francisco, and we work in office 6 days per week.

Your First Month:

  • Week 1: Get Duckie up and running on your machine, and familiarize yourself with the product. Work on a couple of small tickets across the product to learn some of the ins-and-outs. Spend an afternoon with the founders to scope our your first project and kick it off.
  • Week 2: Crank out that project. Talk design and architecture with the CTO. Adapt quickly when things don't work quite as expected. And strive to get it done.
  • Week 3: Push to prod (not really)! Feedback, test, QA, document, and prepare launch material. Go-live and track adoption. See what breaks and fix it. High fives all around.
  • Week 4: Talk to users, get their feedback, and scope out improvements and iterations. Let's figure out what needs to be done to make people absolutely love this feature even more.
