Faire is seeking a Data Scientist / Machine Learning Engineer to join their Discovery Data team, focusing on Search, Personalization, or Ads. The role involves using cutting-edge machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems in a two-sided marketplace.

About Faire: Faire is an online wholesale marketplace built on the belief that the future is local. They use tech, data, and machine learning to connect independent retailers with brands globally, helping small businesses compete with big box and e-commerce giants.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Work on cutting-edge search, personalization, or ads problems
  • Use machine learning to help local retailers and independent brands succeed
  • Contribute to team strategy and lead model development
  • Implement state-of-the-art algorithms from academic papers

Key Areas:

  1. Search: Optimize search through query understanding, retrieval, ranking, and whole-page optimization using embeddings, graph learning, deep learning, and large language models (LLMs).
  2. Personalization: Personalize recommendation surfaces using embeddings, near-real-time signals, explore-exploit techniques, and diversification.
  3. Ads / Sponsored Products: Build Ads Delivery and Advertiser Optimization from the ground up, tackling challenges in targeting, retrieval, prediction/ranking, bidding, pacing, and auction design.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of industry experience using machine learning to solve real-world problems
  • Strong understanding of search, personalization, or ads for product development
  • Strong programming skills
  • Experience with deep learning
  • Ability to contribute to team strategy and lead model development
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset

Preferred:

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, or related STEM fields
  • Ability to quickly implement state-of-the-art algorithms from academic papers
