Description For Lead Engineer - Battery Pack Engineering

Fluence, a Nasdaq-listed company (FLNC), is seeking a Lead Engineer for their Battery Pack Engineering team. This role represents a unique opportunity to join a global market leader in intelligent energy storage and optimization software for renewables. With implementations across nearly 50 markets, Fluence is actively transforming power systems for a sustainable future.

The ideal candidate will lead battery module and pack engineering activities, spearheading the design and development of best-in-class battery solutions. This position requires deep technical expertise in battery systems, including cell chemistry, BMS, and thermal management. The role involves working closely with Product Management and Program Management teams to establish requirements and development timelines.

Key responsibilities include leading technical planning with attention to DFM/DFA, managing documentation, and guiding the team through complex decision-making processes. The position requires strong leadership skills to oversee engineering teams and ensure technical excellence in all aspects of battery pack development.

The successful candidate will bring at least 5 years of Battery Systems design experience, along with comprehensive understanding of cell chemistry, manufacturing processes, and validation methods. They should possess excellent communication skills and the ability to lead through influence.

Responsibilities For Lead Engineer - Battery Pack Engineering

  • Lead Battery Module and Pack Engineering activities
  • Lead design and invention of best-in-class battery modules and packs
  • Lead technical choices documentation and decision-making
  • Lead technical planning of modules with focus on DFM/DFA, DFMEA
  • Support thermal propagation system design
  • Lead service and installation strategies planning
  • Work with Product Management to establish requirements
  • Work with Program Management on product development timelines
  • Guide design release engineers through development
  • Ensure smooth transition to Execution Engineering team
  • Oversee engineering team and provide technical guidance

Requirements For Lead Engineer - Battery Pack Engineering

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field
  • More than 5 years of Battery Systems design experience
  • Understanding of cell chemistry and manufacturing processes
  • Understanding of BMS including cell balancing methods
  • Understanding of thermal propagation mitigation methods
  • Understanding of module validation methods
  • Understanding of DFM/DFA methods
  • Understanding of GD&T
  • Deep understanding of FEA, development testing, and validation
  • Understanding of statistical methods
  • Understanding of DFMEA
  • Team player with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize work
  • Results-oriented and detail-oriented
  • Ability to lead teams through influence
