We're seeking an experienced Analytics Engineer to join our Core Analytics Team (CAT) within the Tech Ops & Analytics group. This role is crucial in building data pipelines to generate actionable insights around our research portfolio investment and impact.

As an Analytics Engineer, you'll work at the intersection of insights and engineering, directly contributing to DeepMind's mission of bringing AI benefits to the world. You'll be part of a diverse team comprising software engineers, analytics engineers, and data scientists, focusing on driving better organizational decisions through technical expertise and stakeholder relationships.

The role involves specialized analytics engineering to support research portfolio management, including exploring investment levels across projects and measuring work impact. You'll build efficient data pipelines, ensure proper data governance, and work closely with technical program managers and leadership to enable clear decision-making.

Your responsibilities will include building ETL pipelines, shaping data governance policies, conducting analyses using SQL and Python, developing monitoring tools, and communicating insights to diverse stakeholders. We're looking for someone with advanced SQL skills, strong stakeholder engagement abilities, and a proven track record of delivering in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities For Analytics Engineer

  • Build ETL pipelines to convert raw data into actionable insights
  • Shape and ensure compliance with internal data governance policies
  • Work with partners to identify relevant high-level product & business questions
  • Write queries and conduct rigorous analysis
  • Develop tools (dashboards, reports, web apps) for metrics monitoring
  • Communicate insights to various stakeholders
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Collaborate with data analysts, engineers and project managers
  • Recommend changes to improve data quality in source systems
  • Submit tested code into source control
  • Coach and mentor others

Requirements For Analytics Engineer

Python
  • Advanced SQL skills and experience in designing, building, and optimizing data models
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing principles
  • Strong track record of stakeholder collaboration
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment
  • Self-starter who can take ownership of projects
  • Experience with publication analytics or impact tracking (preferred)
  • Proficiency in Python and PyData stack (preferred)
  • Understanding of statistical concepts (preferred)
