Description For Advanced Manufacturing Engineer, Metallurgy

Google is seeking an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer specializing in Metallurgy for their Google Cloud division. This role is part of the Hardware Testing Engineering team, ensuring the reliability of Google's custom-designed machines that power their global computing infrastructure.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading research, development, and characterization of solder alloys for Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and thermal requirements.
  • Designing and executing experiments to evaluate material properties, performance, and reliability.
  • Collaborating with design engineering on New Product Introduction (NPI) roadmaps.
  • Coordinating with supply chain managers to build robust manufacturing supply chains.
  • Aligning manufacturing partners' process capabilities with Google's product roadmap.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in manufacturing or process development in semiconductor packaging and SMT.
  • Expertise in advanced IC packaging qualifications, metallurgy, thermal dynamics, and Design of Experiments.
  • Experience with microstructure, material characterization, solder alloy, Indium, and Copper interconnect long-term reliability.
  • Strong communication and investigative skills, able to collaborate with multi-geo teams on complex projects.
