Google Cloud is seeking a Customer Engineer specializing in Application Modernization to join their team. This role combines technical expertise with customer-facing responsibilities, requiring a deep understanding of cloud native architecture and development methodologies. The position offers a competitive base salary range of $142,000-$214,000, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits.

As a Customer Engineer, you'll work at the intersection of technical sales and cloud architecture, helping customers understand and implement Google Cloud solutions. You'll be responsible for assessing legacy applications, developing modernization roadmaps, and guiding customers through their cloud transformation journey. The role requires expertise in cloud-native architectures, containerization, microservices, and platform engineering.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of experience in cloud technologies, strong communication skills, and the ability to engage with both technical teams and executive leadership. You'll be working in a diverse, inclusive environment where you'll collaborate with fellow Googlers to solve complex technical challenges and drive cloud adoption.

Key responsibilities include conducting technical demonstrations, leading proof-of-concept work, and developing strategies to overcome technical obstacles. You'll also serve as a technical advocate for Google Cloud, participating in customer meetings, conferences, and industry events.

Responsibilities For Customer Engineer, Application Modernization, Google Cloud

  • Work with the team to identify and qualify business opportunities, understand key customer technical objections, and develop the strategy to resolve technical blockers
  • Share enterprise infrastructure and cloud modernization expertise to support the technical relationship with customers
  • Guide customers through assessments of their existing legacy application environment(s)
  • Structure and execute prototyping workshops to prove out proposed architectures
  • Travel to customer sites, conferences, and other related events as required

Requirements For Customer Engineer, Application Modernization, Google Cloud

Kubernetes
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 10 years of experience with cloud native architecture and development methodologies
  • Experience engaging with, and presenting to, technical stakeholders and executive leaders
  • Experience with architectural design patterns, platform engineering, virtualization deployments, container deployments, application security, or networking
  • Experience with developing scalable architectures using API management, microservice frameworks, and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)
  • Experience with one or more programming languages
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle
