Description For Data Center Facilities Engineer/Technician, Mechanical

Google's Data Center team is seeking a Facilities Engineer/Technician to join their world-class infrastructure operations. This role is crucial in operating and maintaining some of the most sophisticated electrical and HVAC systems globally. As a Facilities Technician, you'll be responsible for ensuring operational integrity of data center mechanical systems, managing daily operations, and driving system reliability.

The position involves hands-on work with complex infrastructure, including chillers, air handling units, CRAC units, power feeders/distribution, transformers, generators, and UPS systems. You'll be part of an upbeat, creative team committed to building and operating powerful data centers. Your responsibilities will range from routine maintenance to emergency response, ensuring environmental and safety standards are consistently met.

The ideal candidate will bring 5 years of Mechanical/HVAC experience and a strong technical background. You'll play a key role in optimizing operational efficiency, minimizing environmental impact, and maintaining critical infrastructure. Responsibilities For Data Center Facilities Engineer/Technician, Mechanical

  • Ensure the uptime, maintenance, operation, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment
  • Conduct root cause analysis for service failures
  • Lead and support startup, commissioning, and integration of new mechanical equipment
  • Drive continuous improvement in site Water Usage Effectiveness and Power Usage Effectiveness
  • Develop understanding of infrastructure design and conduct team training

Requirements For Data Center Facilities Engineer/Technician, Mechanical

Linux
  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of Mechanical/HVAC experience in an industrial or commercial environment
  • Ability to lift, carry or move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) of equipment
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and work rotations/shifts
  • Experience with safety rules and regulations
  • Experience in commissioning of HVAC and mechanical distribution systems
  • Experience operating and maintaining mission-critical facilities
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in data center environment
