Google's Data Center team is seeking a Data Center Plant Engineer to join their Technical Infrastructure team. This role is crucial in designing and operating some of the most sophisticated engineering systems in the world. The position involves managing complex HVAC, power supply, and control systems while ensuring optimal performance and efficiency of data center operations.

As a Data Center Plant Engineer, you'll be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing various data center systems, working with senior technicians to read blueprints/schematics, and developing creative approaches to reduce operational costs. You'll play a vital role in maintaining environmental and safety standards while managing performance issues and outages to minimize recovery time from failures.

The Technical Infrastructure team is essential in keeping Google's vast network of services running smoothly. They take pride in being the engineers' engineers, maintaining and developing data centers, and building next-generation Google platforms. This role offers competitive compensation, including a base salary range of $125,000-$185,000, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits.

Responsibilities For Data Center Plant Engineer, Mechanical

  • Drive efforts to test, validate, improve, and certify new processes and procedures for critical equipment operation
  • Lead efforts to perform compliance activities for data centers globally
  • Drive efforts to monitor data center systems operations and control site activities
  • Drive efforts to ensure sites are following facility, maintenance, and standard programs globally
  • Lead the development of strategies to keep operational costs to a minimum and improve efficiency

Requirements For Data Center Plant Engineer, Mechanical

Linux
  • Trade school qualification or certification in a related field
  • 9 years of experience in HVAC, electrical, controls, water chemistry, generators, mechanical, or other similar technical domains
  • 3 years of experience in a data center or facilities environment
  • Bachelor's degree or advanced education in a related field (preferred)
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems used in a data center environment
  • Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting utilizing standard tools
  • Ability to communicate with contractors
