Google's Hardware Operations team is seeking a Data Center Technician I to join their Technical Infrastructure division. This role is crucial in maintaining Google's physical infrastructure that powers their search technology and various services. As a Data Center Technician, you'll be hands-on with server hardware, working in state-of-the-art facilities to install, configure, and maintain critical equipment.

The position requires both technical expertise and physical capabilities, as you'll be working with servers, networking equipment, and various hardware components. You'll be responsible for troubleshooting complex systems, performing maintenance, and ensuring the security and integrity of data center operations. Responsibilities For Data Center Technician I, Technical Infrastructure

  • Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions
  • Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with equipment or infrastructure
  • Maintain the security and integrity of data, track various forms of media to check for standard data security issues
  • Disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life via part replacement or maintenance
  • Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure

Requirements For Data Center Technician I, Technical Infrastructure

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols
  • Experience with performing component-level repairs on IT equipment
  • Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays and shift-based schedule
  • Ability to exert yourself physically over extended periods of time
