Description For Data Center Technician II, Technical Operations

Google's Hardware Operations team is seeking a Data Center Technician II to join their Technical Operations team. This role is crucial in maintaining Google's physical infrastructure that powers their search technology and other services. As a Data Center Technician, you'll be responsible for the installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of hardware components and server software, including Google's Linux cluster.

The position requires a blend of technical expertise and physical capabilities, as you'll be working with cutting-edge computer technology while performing hands-on tasks in the data center environment. You'll be involved in complex component configurations, including networks, routers, hubs, bridges, and switches, while ensuring all networking protocols are properly maintained.

The role offers competitive compensation ranging from $66,500 to $100,000, plus additional benefits including bonus and equity. You'll be part of the Technical Infrastructure team, working behind the scenes to keep Google's vast network running smoothly and efficiently. Responsibilities For Data Center Technician II, Technical Operations

  • Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions
  • Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with equipment or infrastructure
  • Maintain the security and integrity of data, track various forms of media to check for standard data security issues
  • Disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life via part replacement or maintenance
  • Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure

Requirements For Data Center Technician II, Technical Operations

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols
  • Experience with performing component-level repairs on IT equipment
  • Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays and shift-based schedule
  • Physical requirements: frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling and lifting
