Description For Data Center Technician, Technical Operations

Google's Hardware Operations team seeks a Data Center Technician to maintain their state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. This role involves hands-on work with servers, components, and networking equipment in Google's data centers. You'll be responsible for installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining hardware and server software, including Google's Linux cluster. The position requires physical capability and technical expertise, offering exposure to cutting-edge computer technology.

As part of the Technical Infrastructure team, you'll play a crucial role in keeping Google's vast network operational. Responsibilities For Data Center Technician, Technical Operations

  • Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions
  • Report issues and troubleshoot equipment or infrastructure issues
  • Maintain security and integrity of data
  • Disassemble end-of-life equipment
  • Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure

Requirements For Data Center Technician, Technical Operations

Linux
  • Experience with component-level repairs on IT equipment
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, holidays and on shift-based schedules
  • Ability to lift or move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and exert physically over extended periods
  • 1 year of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems, computer/server hardware, or networking protocols
  • Ability to collaborate and partner with teams
  • Ability to adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment
  • Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions
