Description For Data Center Technician, Technical Operations

Google's Hardware Operations team seeks a Data Center Technician to maintain their state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. This role is crucial for supporting Google's powerful search technology and extensive product portfolio. As a Data Center Technician, you'll be responsible for installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining hardware components and server software, including Google's Linux cluster. The position involves hands-on work with cutting-edge computer technology, including manual installation of racks and physical infrastructure.

The role requires technical expertise in component-level repairs, operating systems troubleshooting, and server hardware maintenance. You'll work with complex networking components and participate in larger installation projects. The position demands physical capability, as you'll regularly handle equipment up to 50lbs and work in various physical positions.

Responsibilities For Data Center Technician, Technical Operations

  • Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions
  • Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose issues
  • Maintain the security and integrity of data
  • Disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life
  • Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure

Requirements For Data Center Technician, Technical Operations

Linux
  • Experience with component-level repairs on IT equipment
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems and computer/server hardware
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including working weekends, holidays and on shift-based schedules
  • Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment and exert physically over extended periods
  • 1 year of experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols
  • Ability to adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment
  • Ability to collaborate and partner with teams
  • Understanding and executing frequent verbal and written instructions
