Description For Data Center Technician, Technical Operations

Google's Hardware Operations team seeks a Data Center Technician to maintain their state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. This role is crucial for supporting Google's powerful search technology and broader technical infrastructure. You'll work hands-on with cutting-edge computer technology, installing, configuring, and maintaining servers and networking equipment.

The position combines technical expertise with physical demands, requiring both hardware and software knowledge. Responsibilities For Data Center Technician, Technical Operations

  • Deploy and operate new data center infrastructure across projects or functions
  • Report issues and follow data center procedures to troubleshoot and diagnose issues with equipment or infrastructure
  • Maintain the security and integrity of data, track various forms of media to check for standard data security issues
  • Disassemble specific equipment that has reached its end-of-life via part replacement or maintenance
  • Repair, fix, and perform preventative maintenance on equipment, servers, machines, or infrastructure

Requirements For Data Center Technician, Technical Operations

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting operating systems and computer/server hardware or networking protocols
  • Experience with performing component-level repairs on IT equipment
  • Ability to lift/move 50lb (23kg) of equipment
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends, holidays and shift-based schedule
  • 2 years of experience preferred in diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment preferred
  • Ability to collaborate and partner with teams
  • Ability to adapt to changes in a dynamic work environment
