Description For Data Scientist, Gmail and Chat AI Model Quality

Google's Communications & Time Management (CTM) Data Science team is seeking a Data Scientist to shape decision-making and provide actionable insights for Gmail, Chat, and Calendar products. This high-visibility role involves working closely with product and Developer teams to build products enjoyed by users globally. The position requires expertise in data analytics, statistical analysis, and coding, with a focus on improving GenAI models and product performance.

As a Data Scientist, you'll be responsible for exploring user behavior, evaluating model performance, and leading product experiments. You'll work with large datasets, design ETL flows, and translate results into impactful business recommendations. The role requires collaboration with Product Managers and Developers, regularly presenting findings to Workspace leadership.

Google offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of $227,000-$320,000, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits. The position is available across multiple locations in the United States and Canada, offering opportunities to work with Google's worldwide user base of more than a billion people.

Responsibilities For Data Scientist, Gmail and Chat AI Model Quality

  • Perform data exploration to understand user behavior and identify opportunities for improving GenAI models across Gmail and Chat
  • Perform evaluations of model performance across assistive writing, summarization, and inbox highlights
  • Define, own, and evolve model evaluation metrics and frameworks
  • Lead the design, analysis, and interpretation of product experiments
  • Partner with Product, Developers, and cross-functional teams to influence, prioritize, and support product strategy

Requirements For Data Scientist, Gmail and Chat AI Model Quality

Python
  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field
  • 13 years of work experience using analytics to solve product or business problems
  • Experience in statistical analysis and coding (Python, R, SQL)
  • Experience in extracting large sets of data with SQL and designing ETL flows
  • Experience working with Developers and Product Managers
