Description For Engineering Analyst, Messages, Spam, Abuse, Trust and Safety

Google's Trust & Safety team is seeking an Engineering Analyst to join their Messages, Spam, Abuse, Trust and Safety division. This role is crucial in protecting users and partners from abuse across Google products including Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. The position focuses on identifying and combating abuse within the messaging ecosystem, specifically targeting phishing, malware, scams, and unwanted interactions.

The ideal candidate will bring 5 years of data analysis experience and project management skills, combined with strong coding abilities in languages like Python and SQL. They will work at the intersection of technical analysis and security, using data-driven approaches to develop and maintain abuse protections.

As part of the Messaging Spam and Abuse team, you'll collaborate with product teams to proactively identify potential abuse vectors and establish robust protection mechanisms. The role involves working globally and cross-functionally with Google engineers and product managers to fight abuse cases with urgency while maintaining the highest levels of user safety.

Responsibilities For Engineering Analyst, Messages, Spam, Abuse, Trust and Safety

  • Analyze and solve problems using data and statistical methods
  • Improve tools and automated systems through data analysis, technical knowledge, and present to stakeholders
  • Develop an understanding of abuse in messaging, current cross-product workflows, and available intelligence
  • Work with cross-functional teams to design and build anti-abuse protections, advise on counter-abuse strategies, and build monitoring and alerting dashboards
  • Collaborate with engineering, product managers, program manager groups to develop requirements documents

Requirements For Engineering Analyst, Messages, Spam, Abuse, Trust and Safety

Python
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience in data analysis, including identifying trends, generating summary statistics, and drawing insights from quantitative and qualitative data
  • 5 years of experience managing projects and defining project scope, goals, and deliverables
  • 3 years of experience in coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases, or statistical analysis
  • Master's degree in a Quantitative discipline (preferred)
  • Experience with fraud/abuse investigations, fraud risk management, security and threat analysis
  • Knowledge in messaging or SIM/Phone Number fraud and abuse
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
