Responsibilities For Engineering Manager, Chrome Operating System, Kernel

  • Manage a team of engineers working on all aspects of the Linux kernel for ChromeOS devices
  • Design and implement innovative solutions to improve quality and stability of the kernel
  • Partner with other teams in their use of specific kernel features (e.g. tool development for said features)
  • Develop new technologies to optimize and debug kernel and the system as a whole
  • Collaborate with and support other kernel teams at Google, and with the upstream community to develop universal and upstreamable solutions

Requirements For Engineering Manager, Chrome Operating System, Kernel

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms
  • 5 years of experience with Linux kernel development, and software and hardware architecture
  • 5 years of experience managing other software engineers
  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (preferred)
  • 5 years of experience working with embedded operating systems (preferred)
  • Experience in Linux and other open-source community contributions and upstream (preferred)
  • Experience in debugging and troubleshooting skills in domains of Linux Kernel or Userspace (preferred)
