Description For Facility Operations Manager, Data Center Operations

Google's Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and HVAC systems in the world. As a Facility Operations Manager in Data Center Operations, you will lead a team responsible for maintaining and operating sophisticated electrical distribution systems in a 24x7 critical facilities environment. You'll develop innovative approaches to reduce costs and improve efficiency while ensuring high environmental, health, and safety standards.

Your role will involve managing operational budgets, expense forecasting, and performance metrics to ensure cost-effective strategies. You'll be responsible for meeting service level agreements (SLAs) on uptime, efficiency, and cost. The position requires strong leadership skills, as you'll be managing vendor performance, aligning goals with partners, and developing project management for internal and global initiatives.

Key responsibilities include emergency preparedness, operational excellence, and strategic planning. You'll lead the response to critical events and ensure high facility availability. Additionally, you'll be involved in regulatory and customer audits, ensuring compliance, and participating in community events to drive talent acquisition and retention.

Responsibilities For Facility Operations Manager, Data Center Operations

  • Lead a team responsible to maintain, and operate sophisticated electrical distribution systems in a 24x7 critical facilities environment
  • Develop innovative approaches to reduce costs and improve efficiency
  • Plan and manage operational budgets and expense forecasting
  • Create and deploy strategies for cost-effective operations focused on total cost of ownership
  • Meet service level agreements (SLAs) on uptime, efficiency, and cost
  • Support strategy and plan deployments
  • Implement and drive a strong safety culture at the site
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and innovation in addressing traditional and emergent data center challenges
  • Demonstrate flexibility to support our operations, taking the lead in responding to critical events when necessary

Requirements For Facility Operations Manager, Data Center Operations

  • Associate's degree, trade school certification, or other verifiable training in a relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience
  • 5 years of experience working as a Facilities/Operations Manager or Chief Engineer within a critical facility
  • Experience with electrical systems
  • Experience managing/operating a mission critical facility including operations, technical, and team management
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, including weekends and holidays on shift based schedules
