Description For Hardware Power Test Engineering Manager, Platforms

As a Hardware Power Test Engineering Manager at Google, you will lead a team of hardware test engineers focused on onboard power validation and hardware design reviews. Your role involves managing the interface between hardware engineering teams and the lab team, ensuring proper resource allocation and readiness for new and existing products.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Overseeing electrical characterization, validation, and qualification of on-board system-level power distribution networks.
  2. Driving improvements in power measurement methodologies, test automation, and processes across compute and Machine Learning products.
  3. Supporting design engineers with debugging, component validation, and failure analysis.
  4. Analyzing aggregated data to enable data-driven engineering decisions and reporting on findings.
  5. Collaborating with hardware designers and diagnostics teams to understand power distribution architectures and develop resource requirements.

This role is part of Google's Technical Infrastructure team, which is responsible for developing and maintaining data centers and building next-generation Google platforms. The team plays a crucial role in keeping networks running efficiently and ensuring the best user experience.

The position requires physical interaction with hardware equipment in a simulated data center environment, utilizing Google labs, power, and safety equipment. Regular on-site work is necessary for development and processing of engineering hardware.

Responsibilities For Hardware Power Test Engineering Manager, Platforms

  • Define, execute, and document electrical characterization, validation, and qualification of on-board system-level power distribution network (PDN), covering from the DC-DC power converter design to ASIC power integrity validation
  • Drive improvement on power measurement methodologies, test automation, and processes across compute and Machine Learning products
  • Support design engineers with debug, component validation, and failure analysis of released products
  • Collect and analyze aggregated data to enable data driven engineering decisions, report on findings, reduce test data, and investigate test outcomes to a hardware interface or component level
  • Work with hardware designers and other diagnostics development teams to understand new project' power distribution architectures and system test requirements to develop resource requirements

Requirements For Hardware Power Test Engineering Manager, Platforms

Python
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 6 years of experience working in DC-DC power design or testing, or 5 years of experience with an advanced degree
  • 3 years of experience in engineering management
  • Experience in one or more of the following: DC-DC converters, open compute power architecture, SoC power architecture, and component-/tray-/rack-level power management
