Google's Augmented Reality team is seeking a Hardware System Technical Program Manager to lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects for their Extended Reality Platform. This role combines technical leadership with program management, requiring expertise in consumer electronics and reference platform development. As part of Google's AR team, you'll be instrumental in building foundations for immersive computing and creating accessible AR experiences for billions through mobile devices.

The position demands a blend of technical depth and leadership skills, managing various engineering programs and teams. You'll be responsible for shepherding projects through their entire lifecycle, from requirements planning to launch, while managing schedules, identifying risks, and maintaining clear communication with all stakeholders. The role involves significant collaboration with ODMs, OEMs, and vendors in manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities For Hardware System Technical Program Manager, Extended Reality Platform

  • Define, drive, and own the overall system development process from concept to launch for extended reality (XR) reference platform hardware programs
  • Balance schedule, performance, and user experience trade-offs
  • Work with ODMs, OEMs, and vendors in manufacturing environments on development schedules, dependencies, and budgets
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate key focus points and next steps with engineering, vendors, operations, quality, and management
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation strategies and facilitate conflict resolution among a cross-functional team of engineers
  • Synthesize data into a clear story and communicate to stakeholders and organizations at all levels

Requirements For Hardware System Technical Program Manager, Extended Reality Platform

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 10 years of technical program management experience
  • 7 years of experience in leadership role(s) with/without direct reports
  • Experience with consumer electronics, developing and shipping reference platforms
  • Knowledge of product life-cycle, tools, processes and development planning
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks at once
  • Ability to lead technical teams, cross-functional groups, and vendors against plans
  • Ability to travel internationally 20% of the time or more as needed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
