Description For Hardware Test Engineer, Platforms Infrastructure Engineering

Google is seeking a Hardware Test Engineer to join their Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team. This role is integral to the Technical Infrastructure team, responsible for bringing Google's vast product portfolio to life. As a Specialized Hardware Test engineer, you'll work with a team focused on prototype bring-up, validation, and qualification of server, networking, and optical platforms. The position involves close collaboration with engineering design and test teams, ensuring lab readiness for new products, and maintaining a safe, organized lab environment.

The role combines hands-on hardware engineering with systems administration, requiring expertise in Linux systems, network debugging, and hardware assembly. You'll be responsible for managing hardware components, documenting configurations, and maintaining lab inventory. Responsibilities For Hardware Test Engineer, Platforms Infrastructure Engineering

  • Perform linux systems administrative tasks which will include debugging system and network issues related to lab networks, and connectivity to engineering test setups
  • Work with cross-functional teams on tasks such as prototype hardware assembly, program with hardware tools, and install firmware updates
  • Receive and manage hardware components and material for projects and disperse hardware per allocation plan
  • Work with teams bringing up new labs and services. Tasks include documenting lab bench and rack configurations and prioritize tasks related to project bring up
  • Manage and organize lab inventory of consumables and equipment utilized by lab users. Maintain an organized, clean and safe operating lab

Requirements For Hardware Test Engineer, Platforms Infrastructure Engineering

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience
  • 1 year of experience working in a hardware engineering lab environment, or an advanced degree
  • Ability to lift/move 30lb (14kg) of equipment and ability to exert yourself physically over extended periods of time, including frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, pushing/pulling and lifting
