Google is seeking an Infrastructure Support Engineer for Sovereign Operations to operate and secure private cloud services. This role aims to provide the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of public cloud for customers with high security requirements that can only be met in a private cloud environment. The engineer will deliver and operate private cloud deployments, helping scale, secure, and maintain the deployment while working with Google Cloud product teams to improve technology.
As the first point of contact for customers encountering technical issues with their private cloud workloads, the engineer will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving a wide range of incidents, acting as a bridge between the customer and internal Google teams. The role requires providing timely and effective technical support, diagnosing incidents, and using technical knowledge to fix issues.
Collaboration with other Google teams is essential to escalate and resolve complex issues. The engineer will update Google's playbooks to help teams worldwide and drive the success of Google Cloud by understanding and advocating for customer issues. This position may require working non-standard hours and participating in an on-call rotation.
Key responsibilities include monitoring and supporting queues, troubleshooting customer issues, collaborating with UK Sovereign Operations and wider Google Cloud Engineering teams, responding to platform alerts, supporting Service Desk processes, and participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation for incident response.
The ideal candidate should have experience with Linux operating systems, networking, scripting, automation, and application troubleshooting. Preferred qualifications include experience with Kubernetes, public cloud technologies (e.g., GCP), creating automation scripts, and understanding of LAN/WAN.
