Description For Principal Engineer, Core Networking Site Reliability

Google is seeking a Principal Engineer to join their Core Networking Site Reliability Engineering team. This role combines deep technical expertise with exceptional leadership to influence projects and deliver complex technical roadmaps across multiple organizations. The position focuses on ensuring the reliable operation, engineering, and evolution of Google's Core network, including Wide Area, Metro, and Data Center routing and switching infrastructure.

As a Principal Engineer, you'll be responsible for the SDN control plane, automation infrastructure for mitigation, provisioning, and safety, as well as infrastructure security and reliability. This role is crucial in maintaining and improving Google's vast technical infrastructure that powers their entire product portfolio. You'll work directly with Directors and VPs to shape technical strategy and make key architectural decisions.

The role offers a competitive compensation package including a base salary range of $278,000-$399,000, plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits. You'll be joining a team that takes pride in being "engineers' engineers" and focuses on maintaining Google's networks to ensure the best and fastest user experience possible.

The ideal candidate will bring 15 years of experience in IP routing and networking, combined with strong leadership abilities and exceptional communication skills. Requirements For Principal Engineer, Core Networking Site Reliability

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 15 years of experience in IP routing and Switching, Routing Protocols, and Networking concepts
  • Experience in system design, algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design
  • Deep understanding of compute, networking, application stacks
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience partnering with large engineering teams
  • Experience defining system or process requirements
