Description For Principal Engineer, PhysICS

As the Principal Engineer, PhysICS (Physical Infrastructure Controls Security), you will be responsible for the technical leadership of the PhysICS program. You will define the overall end-to-end security architecture for PhysICS, including a zero trust network/systems design that reduces the potential blast radius of security events while preserving reliability in the data center environment.

You will provide technical leadership over partner teams responsible for operating and securing the data center environment. You'll guide and influence senior leaders across Google Cloud and Technical Infrastructure to shape the strategic direction of the PhysICS program and ensure secure architectures are adopted and implemented.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the senior technical leader for PhysICS across Technical Infrastructure
  • Defining the overall end-to-end security architecture for PhysICS
  • Driving the adoption of secure architectures/zero trust design in the PhysICS environment
  • Owning and driving security initiatives in Technical Infrastructure and collaborating with senior leaders across Alphabet

Requirements For Principal Engineer, PhysICS

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
  • 15 years of professional experience with security or security engineering (or 13 years with an advanced degree)
  • Experience in architecture or design of highly reliable/redundant systems, high performance systems, high security/classified systems, privacy sensitive systems, or globally scaled systems using multiple stacks
  • Expertise in reasoning and quantifying relative impacts and risks of technical work
  • Deep technical expertise in systems and software
  • Excellent leadership skills to influence technical leaders across the company
  • Ability to quickly ramp up in new subject areas
  • Strong cross-organizational collaboration skills
