Description For Principal Technical Analyst, Messages Spam and Abuse

Google's Trust & Safety team is seeking a Principal Technical Analyst to join their Messages Spam and Abuse division. This role is crucial in making the internet safer by fighting abuse across Google's products. The position involves working with Engineers and Product Managers globally to tackle online safety challenges, focusing on malware, spam, and account hijacking. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in messaging anti-abuse, data analysis, and cyber security.

The role offers a competitive compensation package of $165,000-$248,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Based in either Kirkland, WA or Austin, TX, you'll be part of a diverse team of Analysts, Policy Specialists, Engineers, and Program Managers working in over 40 languages.

Key responsibilities include designing anti-abuse protections, analyzing trends, leading ML model implementation, and advising on counter-abuse strategies. The position requires strong technical skills in Python, SQL, or Golang, combined with expertise in messaging fraud and abuse prevention.

Responsibilities For Principal Technical Analyst, Messages Spam and Abuse

  • Work with cross-functional teams to design and build anti-abuse protections leveraging reputation at all levels
  • Analyze emerging trends, conduct data analyses and identify new signals to develop solutions for scaled enforcement
  • Lead projects to productionize ML models, heuristic rules and measure system/model reliability
  • Advise on counter-abuse strategies based on changing industry norms
  • Create awareness of threats and educate clients on emerging abuse trends
  • Influence development of safer by design product features

Requirements For Principal Technical Analyst, Messages Spam and Abuse

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 7 years of experience in data analysis, including identifying trends, generating summary statistics, and drawing insights
  • 7 years of experience in managing projects and defining project scope, goals, and deliverables
  • Experience with Messaging (xMS/RCS) or SIM/Phone Number fraud and abuse
  • Experience with one or more languages: SQL, Python, Golang
  • Experience in development of privacy and safety-focused product design protections
