Description For Product Engineer, Operations Technical Leader, Networking and Optics

Google's custom-designed equipment makes up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Manufacturing Operations team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver this state-of-the-art physical infrastructure. As a Product Engineer, Operations Technical Leader in Networking and Optics, you will evaluate product designs and create processes, tools, and procedures behind Google's powerful search technology. You'll work alongside vendors to ensure manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled, collaborating with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google's infrastructure needs and product specifications.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Demonstrating expertise in deliverables like Design for Excellence (DFx) and test strategy
  • Ensuring factory readiness, supporting line bring-up, and providing debug training
  • Managing bone pile and driving resolution of yield detractors
  • Validating qualification plans, supporting reliability testing, and reviewing results
  • Influencing architecture through early engagement

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer networking, or equivalent practical experience, with 8 years of experience in manufacturing or networking. You should have experience working with Original Device Manufacturers (ODM), contract manufacturers, and component suppliers for Hardware Engineers in the data center networking topology.

Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, 10 years of experience in developing supply chains and manufacturers for data center infrastructure equipment, and experience with CMOS devices, fabrication processes, automatic test equipment, design for test, quality, and reliability. Skills in SQL, Python, or scripting, and the ability to create and execute a Design Validation Test Plan on an electronic assembly are also valued.

This position offers a competitive salary range of $134,000-$198,000 + bonus + equity + benefits, determined by factors such as role, level, location, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
