Description For Product Manager, Google Maps Directions Experience

Google Maps is on a mission to help users explore and navigate the world with confidence, with Directions being a crucial component. As a Product Manager on the Directions Experience team, you'll be at the forefront of shaping how millions of users navigate their daily lives. The role involves working with a cross-functional team to guide products from conception to launch, focusing on the Directions experience which helps users understand different options to get from A to B.

The position requires someone who can break down complex problems and drive product development while working closely with engineers, designers, and other stakeholders. You'll be responsible for identifying and developing features that address core user needs, leading UI and infrastructure upgrades, and ensuring a scalable platform that other teams can build upon.

The Geo team, which you'll be part of, powers products like Maps, Earth, Street View, and Google Maps Platform, serving over a billion users monthly. You'll contribute to solving complex computer science problems, designing intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Responsibilities For Product Manager, Google Maps Directions Experience

  • Identify and develop features focusing on core user needs and new use cases in directions
  • Work closely with internal and external teams to enhance the overall Directions experience
  • Lead UI and infrastructure upgrades to ensure a scalable and future-proof platform
  • Partner with engineering to improve latency, UI scalability, and reliability
  • Address critical bugs and feature requests to maintain a high-quality user experience

Requirements For Product Manager, Google Maps Directions Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 3 years of experience in product management or related technical role
  • 1 year of experience taking technical products from conception to launch
  • Experience in designing products in maps or transportation systems
  • Experience working cross-functionally with engineering, design, research, and other stakeholders
  • Experience in consumer facing products and features development
  • Ability to balance technical, business, and organizational perspectives
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and investigative skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
