Google's Security Surveillance team (SST) is seeking a Security Engineer to join their efforts in monitoring Google's network and systems for threats to information security. This role is crucial in maintaining the safest operating environment for Google's users and developers. As a Security Engineer, you'll work with network equipment, actively monitor systems for attacks and intrusions, and collaborate with software engineers to proactively identify and fix security flaws and vulnerabilities.
Key responsibilities include identifying security issues, implementing and designing security controls and tools, participating in a 24/7 global operation to hunt for and respond to security events, performing investigations on various events to determine potential threats, and creating new tooling to scale detection capabilities.
The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, along with 2 years of experience in security assessments, security design reviews, or threat modeling. Additionally, 2 years of experience in security engineering, computer and network security, and security protocols is required. Proficiency in coding with at least 2 years of experience in one or more general-purpose languages is essential.
Preferred qualifications include 3 years of experience responding to security problems, analyzing security alerts, and crafting responses. Expertise in Python, Go, C/C++, or Java is highly valued, as well as experience with signals development, threat hunting/modeling, and analysis of data sets and intrusion detection systems.
