Description For Security Engineer, Hardware/Firmware

Google is seeking a Security Engineer specializing in Hardware/Firmware to join their team in Munich, Germany. This role is crucial for maintaining and enhancing the security of Google's hardware and firmware systems in production environments.

The position requires a professional with a strong background in security engineering, combining both offensive and defensive security methodologies. You'll be working at the intersection of hardware and software security, focusing on protecting Google's vast infrastructure and user base.

As a Security Engineer, you'll collaborate with various teams including EIP, Platforms, ProdSecLabs, CredInfra, VirtSec, ISE, PSE, and other security organizations at Google. Your responsibilities will encompass designing security controls, conducting threat modeling, and implementing platform security improvements.

The role offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in Google Cloud, which serves customers in more than 200 countries. You'll be part of a team dedicated to delivering security for New Product Introduction heading to Google Production, specifically focusing on hardware and firmware security.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Conducting security assessments and design reviews

Responsibilities For Security Engineer, Hardware/Firmware

  • Identify security issues and implement and design security controls, tools, and services to improve security systems and processes
  • Work with platform engineering teams to shape the security of new and changing platforms (hardware, firmware)
  • Design and engineer the necessary security controls for identified risks
  • Develop threat models and security requirements to best understand who/what we need to protect against and how systems should be protected
  • Assess existing production infrastructure to identify latent and/or systemic issues and drive remediation efforts to address them

Requirements For Security Engineer, Hardware/Firmware

Linux
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 2 years of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages
  • 2 years of experience with security assessments, security design reviews, or threat modeling
  • 2 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security, and security protocols
  • Experience with both offensive and defensive security methods
  • Experience with OS hardening, specifically Linux or BSD-variants (preferred)
  • Experience with low level C/Assembly (preferred)
  • Experience working within Kernel Programming, Systems Engineering, Systems Internals, Hardware Programming, Hardware System Architecture (preferred)
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills (preferred)
