Description For Senior Hardware Design Engineer

Google is seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to join their team in Sunnyvale, CA. In this role, you will own strategy and drive execution across a portfolio of projects, ranging from network switches to machine learning pods. You will interface with stakeholders from data center operations, manufacturing, and supply chain to crystallize Design for Operations requirements. You will influence new platform architectures through technical insights and trade off analyses with stakeholders from the Hardware Design and Software Architecture teams. Additionally, you will help mentor an experienced team within operations for in-house competence in platforms architecture, both hardware and software. This position requires a strong background in hardware design, system architecture, and operational requirements for data center platforms. The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership skills, communication abilities, and experience in managing complex projects from concept to production. Responsibilities For Senior Hardware Design Engineer

  • Develop the strategic roadmap with stakeholders from data center operations, supply chain, and manufacturing to capture the design for operations requirements
  • Identify critical user journeys that capture operational requirements (e.g., serviceability, automation, safety, repair cost, and deployment time)
  • Integrate design for operations into the architecture of platforms hardware and software and investigate alternative architectures and roadmaps to enable an optimized system design
  • Engage in the development of the system architecture, including design intent, functional trade-offs, and deployment risks
  • Align organizational boundaries within the Engineering, Network, Power, Compliance, Safety, Supply Chain and Data Center Operations team to leverage shared goals and resource

Requirements For Senior Hardware Design Engineer

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent practical experience
  • 4 years of experience working in a Product Design for Data center platforms technical environment, or 3 years of experience with an advanced degree
  • Experience in manufacturing, hardware validation, and quality control
  • Experience in hardware platform development managing platforms from concept to production
