Description For Senior Research Scientist, Multilingual NLP

As a Senior Research Scientist in Multilingual NLP at Google, you will work on developing multilingual Large Language Models (LLMs) and their application to translation and semantic understanding tasks. The role involves building and expanding datasets, including multimodal text and audio resources, creating novel evaluation datasets, and developing algorithms for LLM training and evaluation.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Designing algorithms for model training and prediction
  2. Managing experiments on Tensor Processing Unit (TPU) cloud
  3. Writing up results in design documents, technical reports, and papers for publication
  4. Proposing new research ideas and providing research leadership in the team
  5. Writing programs in Python with JAX and PAX

The ideal candidate will have:

  • PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 7 years of experience in NLP, NLU, Machine Learning, LLMs, or a related field
  • Experience contributing to research communities and publishing in forums like ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, EACL, COLING, ICLR, AAAI, NeurIPS
  • Strong programming skills, particularly in Python or C/C++
  • Experience in innovative research and working with a research team
  • Ability to effectively navigate ambiguity
  • Excellent coding skills
