Senior Software Engineer, Natural Language Processing

Google Research is seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Natural Language Processing to join their team. This role focuses on developing advanced methodologies for multilingual environments, particularly for Large Language Models used in key Google products like Gemini, Search, and Cloud Vertex AI.

Key responsibilities include:

• Researching new modeling approaches to improve multilingual capabilities of Large Language Models
• Exploring pre-training for target languages other than English
• Developing infrastructure to support multilingual research
• Enhancing quality of multilingual instruction-tuning datasets
• Refining multilingual evaluation processes
• Boosting knowledge transfer across languages
• Optimizing multilingual tokenization

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, data structures/algorithms, and extensive experience with Natural Language Processing or Large Language Models. They should be comfortable with ML/AI algorithms, deep learning, and have a track record of contributing to NLP research, including publications at major conferences.
