Description For Site Reliability Engineer, Alloy Databases

Google's Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is seeking a skilled engineer to join their Alloy Databases division. This role combines software and systems engineering to build and maintain large-scale, distributed systems. As an SRE, you'll be responsible for ensuring Google's services maintain optimal reliability and performance while driving continuous improvement.

The position offers unique challenges of scale specific to Google's infrastructure, where you'll apply your expertise in coding, algorithms, and system design. You'll work on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure, and creating automation solutions to eliminate manual work. The role includes participating in a Tier 1 on-call rotation during India business hours and collaborating with global teams.

The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in computer science with at least 2 years of programming experience in languages like Go, Java, or Python. You'll need experience with data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems. The role requires both technical expertise and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across different time zones.

Responsibilities For Site Reliability Engineer, Alloy Databases

  • Execute on optimization of existing systems, building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. Execute on projects that will improve the reliability of AlloyDB
  • Join a Tier 1 on-call rotation (9.30 AM - 9.30 PM IST)
  • Work on product/tool development supporting software and infrastructure tools
  • Create, influence and review ongoing design, architecture, standards and methods for services and systems
  • Manage availability, latency, scalability and efficiency of Google services by engineering reliability into software and systems
  • Respond to and resolve emergent service problems and write software and build automation to prevent problem recurrence
  • Participate in service capacity planning, software performance analysis and system tuning

Requirements For Site Reliability Engineer, Alloy Databases

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2 years of experience with data structures/algorithms and software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Java, Python or Go)
  • 4 years of experience working with algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis, and software design
  • Experience in analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed system Cloud Computing Large databases Google Infrastructure Database Internals
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple global stakeholders
