Google is seeking a Software Engineer to join their Google Meet Interoperability/Rooms Media team for Android. This role is part of a team that's actively transforming the video conferencing landscape, shifting away from proprietary solutions towards standardized technologies. The ideal candidate will work with the latest hardware from top manufacturers, solve complex technical challenges, and partner with industry leaders to drive real change in video collaboration.

As a Software Engineer at Google, you'll be developing next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. The products you'll work on need to handle information at massive scale and extend well beyond web search. Google is looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design, and mobile.

The role involves working on Android, Google's open-source mobile operating system powering more than 3 billion devices worldwide. Android's mission is to bring computing to everyone in the world, believing that computing is a superpower for good, enabling access to information, economic opportunity, productivity, and connectivity between friends and family.

Key responsibilities include developing innovative features for video conferencing on meeting room devices, collaborating with partners for seamless interoperability, optimizing media quality, troubleshooting technical issues, and contributing to code reviews and design discussions.

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, 2 years of software development experience, strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms, and experience with Android using Java or Kotlin. Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree in Computer Science, experience with performance and large-scale systems, and knowledge of accessible technologies and cross-stack web-based systems.

  • Develop innovative features that enhance the video conferencing experience on various meeting room devices
  • Collaborate with hardware and software partners to ensure seamless interoperability between Google Meet and third-party video conferencing solutions
  • Optimize media quality, including video encoding and effects, to deliver crystal-clear audio and video in meeting room environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to media quality, system performance, and hardware/software integration
