Description For Software Engineer III, Looker Original Control Plane

Google Cloud is seeking a Software Engineer III for the Looker Original Control Plane team. This role is critical to Google Cloud's needs, focusing on developing next-generation technologies that impact billions of users. The ideal candidate will be versatile, display leadership qualities, and be enthusiastic about tackling new problems across the full-stack.

Looker aims to bring better insights and data-driven decisions to every business. The team is integral to Looker's operation and success, encompassing licensing, management tools for instance provisioning, Kubernetes services for runtime behavior control, and observability data pipelines for monitoring and alerting.

As a Software Engineer III, you will:

  • Work on services and infrastructure for automated provisioning and management of Looker instances across multiple cloud platforms
  • Enhance performance, reliability, and observability of Looker functionality
  • Review code, contribute to documentation, and triage system issues
  • Drive the path forward for multi-cloud GCP products

The role requires expertise in Java programming, experience with cloud technologies (particularly GCP), and knowledge of databases and querying languages. Experience with Go, Node.js, Ruby, and Kubernetes is preferred.

Responsibilities For Software Engineer III, Looker Original Control Plane

  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality
  • Design, develop, and maintain services and infrastructure to facilitate the automated provisioning, updating, and management of customer Looker instances operating on multiple cloud platforms
  • Increase performance, reliability, and observability of/into Looker functionality
