Google Cloud is seeking a Software Engineer III for their TPU Backend, Compiler team. This role is part of Google Cloud's software engineering team, which develops next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. The ideal candidate will bring fresh ideas from various areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design, and mobile.

As a Software Engineer III, you will work on critical projects for Google Cloud's needs, with opportunities to switch teams and projects as the business grows and evolves. You'll be expected to anticipate customer needs, act like an owner, take action, and innovate. The role requires versatility, leadership qualities, and enthusiasm to tackle new problems across the full-stack.

Key responsibilities include writing product or system development code, collaborating on design and code reviews, contributing to documentation, troubleshooting issues, and implementing solutions in specialized ML areas. The ideal candidate will have experience with data structures, algorithms, C++ development, performance optimization, compilers, and ML infrastructure.

  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality
  • Implement solutions in one or more specialized ML areas, utilize ML infrastructure, and contribute to model optimization and data processing

Requirements For Software Engineer III, TPU Backend, Compiler

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms
  • 2 years of experience with software development in C++
  • 2 years of experience in performance optimization
  • 2 years of experience working with compilers
  • 1 year of experience with ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, optimization, data processing, debugging)
