Description For Software Engineer, Metrics and Business Intelligence

Google is seeking a Software Engineer for their Metrics and Business Intelligence team. This role is part of the Core team, which builds the technical foundation behind Google's flagship products. The Metrics team provides critical insights to help the client organization make informed decisions based on tangible evidence. They are responsible for defining and executing key performance indicators that enable data-driven investment and decision making on frameworks and infrastructure serving Google's largest products.

As a Software Engineer in this role, you will work on projects critical to Google's needs, with opportunities to switch teams and projects as the business evolves. You'll be developing next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. The role requires versatility, leadership qualities, and enthusiasm to tackle new problems across the full-stack.

Key responsibilities include writing product or system development code, reviewing code from other developers, contributing to documentation, triaging product or system issues, and evolving metrics, data pipelines, and dashboards. You'll work with data analytics tools, reporting platforms, and potentially front-end technologies.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in software development, data structures, algorithms, and experience with data analytics. Familiarity with data warehousing and unstructured databases is preferred. Responsibilities For Software Engineer, Metrics and Business Intelligence

  • Write product or system development code
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency)
  • Contribute to existing documentation or educational content and adapt content based on product/program updates and user feedback
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality
  • Evolve and make improvements to the metrics, data pipelines, and dashboards

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree
  • 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms

  • Experience working with data analytics tools and reporting platforms
  • Ability to communicate in English fluently to interact with local stakeholders in this customer-facing role
