Description For Software Engineering Manager, Chrome Identity

Google's Chrome Identity team, part of the Chrome Trust & Safety organization, is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead their engineering efforts. This role combines technical leadership with people management, focusing on developing Chrome browser's identity features including sign-in processes, account management, and data synchronization across devices.

The position requires an experienced leader with 8 years of software development expertise and 5 years of technical leadership experience. You'll be responsible for building and managing a team working on Chrome identity features across mobile and desktop platforms, making technical contributions, and collaborating with Product and UX teams to define and execute product requirements.

As part of Google's Platforms and Ecosystems product area, you'll work on software platforms that impact users worldwide. Responsibilities For Software Engineering Manager, Chrome Identity

  • Build up and manage a team of engineers working on Chrome identity across mobile and desktop platforms
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role and aligned to the broader organization's goals
  • Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching
  • Make direct technical contributions to critical components of the projects
  • Manage workload to maximize impact, prioritize multiple concurrent projects, and refine timelines with stakeholders as needed
  • Represent the team and work closely with PM/UX peers to define/refine the product requirements and lead their execution

Requirements For Software Engineering Manager, Chrome Identity

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, Kotlin C++, Python, C)
  • 5 years of experience in a technical leadership role overseeing projects

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field (preferred)
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction (preferred)
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex organization (preferred)
  • Experience with mobile or desktop development (preferred)
