Description For Software Engineering Manager II, Payments

Google is seeking a Software Engineering Manager II for their Payments team. This role combines technical expertise with leadership skills to manage and guide engineering teams across multiple projects and locations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, experience in technical leadership, and the ability to contribute to product strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set team priorities aligned with organizational goals
  • Manage performance and development of team members
  • Develop mid-term technical vision and roadmap
  • Design and guide system designs, and contribute to code development
  • Review code and ensure best practices

The Payments team at Google focuses on making payments simple, seamless, and secure across various platforms, including online Autofill, tap and pay in stores, and the Google Pay app. The team also manages money movement between Google and its consumers and businesses.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of software development experience
  • 3 years in a technical leadership role
  • 2 years of people management experience
  • Experience with languages like Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript

Preferred:

  • Master's or PhD in Computer Science or related field
  • 3 years of experience in complex, matrixed organizations

  • Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching
  • Develop the mid-term technical vision and roadmap within the scope of your team(s)
  • Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs
  • Design, guide and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area
  • Write product or system development code to solve ambiguous problems
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices
