Description For Software Engineering Manager II, Site Reliability Engineering

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) at Google combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. As an SRE Manager, you'll lead a team ensuring Google's services maintain reliability and appropriate uptime while monitoring system capacity and performance. The role involves optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure, and automating processes. You'll tackle unique scaling challenges while applying expertise in coding, algorithms, and system design. Google's Technical Infrastructure team builds the architecture supporting all Google products, from data centers to next-gen platforms. Responsibilities For Software Engineering Manager II, Site Reliability Engineering

  • Lead a team of software and systems engineers, including iteration and task planning
  • Deliver on manager responsibilities and care for the team
  • Set team priorities and drive team OKR execution with input from SRE leadership and cross-functional partners
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with sibling team shards and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Establish technical credibility and influence technical direction and high quality delivery from the team
  • Participate in primary oncall rotation; cultivate technical curiosity and growth mindset, and a blameless postmortem culture within the team

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience with data structures or algorithms
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages
  • 3 years of experience managing people or teams, leading projects, and designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems
  • Master's degree in Computer Science or Engineering (preferred)
