Description For Software Engineering Manager, Wear Engineering Productivity

Google is seeking a Software Engineering Manager to lead the Wear Engineering Productivity team in Bucharest, Romania. This role combines technical leadership with people management, focusing on improving developer velocity, scalability, and testability for the next generation of Wearables.

The position requires an experienced leader with 8 years of software development expertise and a strong background in languages like Python, Java, or Go. You'll be working within the Fitbit ecosystem, which is now part of Google, helping to create innovative wearable technology that empowers people to lead healthier, more active lives.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for setting team priorities, developing technical roadmaps, and providing leadership to software and test engineers. You'll work closely with engineering and product leads to define engineering workflows and product direction. The role involves managing multiple teams and locations, overseeing large-scale project deployments, and contributing to product strategy.

The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of technical leadership experience and 2 years of people management experience. You'll need excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across functions. Experience with mobile devices and engineering productivity improvements is highly valued.

  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the organization's goals
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role
  • Develop the mid-term technical goal and roadmap within the scope of the team
  • Lead a team of Software and Test Engineers focused on improving developer velocity, scalability and testability for Wearables
  • Provide technical expertise throughout the product life cycle from design to delivery of scalable build/test/release infrastructure

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go)
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role
  • 2 years of experience in people management, supervision/team leadership role
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field (preferred)
  • 3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization (preferred)
  • Experience in driving engineering productivity objectives (preferred)
  • Experience working on improving quality and performance of android or mobile devices (preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills and cross-functional collaboration (preferred)
