Description For Staff Hardware Systems Design Engineer

Google is seeking a Staff Hardware Systems Design Engineer to join their Technical Infrastructure team, focusing on Machine Learning/AI hardware systems projects for data center deployments. This role offers a competitive base salary range of $168,000-$252,000 plus bonus, equity, and comprehensive benefits.

The position requires hands-on interaction with hardware equipment in a simulated data center environment, making it an on-site role. You'll be responsible for leading the development of hardware solutions from concept through production, working with various teams including ASIC/FPGA, Software, and Verification teams.

The ideal candidate should have at least 6 years of hardware systems design experience or 5 years with an advanced degree, plus 3 years of technical leadership experience. A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field is required. Experience with PCIe Gen3+, DDR4+, and signal integrity would be advantageous.

As part of Google's Technical Infrastructure team, you'll be at the forefront of developing and maintaining data centers and building next-generation Google platforms. The role involves cross-functional collaboration with various teams and external vendors, ensuring that designs are manufacturable and ready for volume production.

  • Gather system requirements, define architecture, execute hardware design, and product validation
  • Lead the bring up, validation, NPI, deployment, and sustaining of hardware solutions
  • Work cross-functionally with Hardware, Software, Mechanical, Thermal, Validation, Manufacturing, and external vendors
  • Drive system development from concept through production
  • Lead debug and root cause analysis of deployed systems

Requirements For Staff Hardware Systems Design Engineer

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 6 years of experience working in hardware systems design, or 5 years of experience with an advanced degree
  • 3 years of experience in technical leadership
  • Experience with physical hardware equipment in a simulated data center environment
